Competition not the reason to prepone 'Kaabil' release: Gupta

Hrithik Roshan-starrer "Kaabil", which was supposed to clash with Shah Rukh Khan's "Raees" on January 26, will now hit the theatres a day early, but director Sanjay Gupta feels competition is not the reason behind the strategy.
The makers recently announced that "Kaabil" will be in theatres on January 25 from the 6 PM show onwards. The action-thriller features Hrithik as a blind man who avenges the death of his girlfriend, played by Yami Gautam.
When asked if releasing a day early will help the film, Gupta told PTI, "It would probably help in the sense that, 26th is a holiday, so coming on the night before does make it a sensible business. There are so many people who go to watch a movie when there is holiday the next day."
The "Jazbaa" director says it is a good move from the point of view of audience, and feels it has got nothing to do with any other film clashing with "Kaabil".
"Me as a family man, I know that we can watch a late night show and enjoy that. From that point of view it is a very good move. I don't think it has got anything much to do with any other film coming, not coming, or getting into the competition space. I don't think it's about that."
While "Kaabil" is backed by Rakesh Roshan, "Raees" is directed by Rahul Dholakia and is set in 1980s Gujarat. It revolves around a bootlegger Raees Khan, played by Shah Rukh.
Gupta feels now that a clash is inevitable, the two films will speak for themselves once they hit the screens.
"That clash is now apparently inevitable. It is sad, it is in a bad taste that it is still happening. Having said that, at the end of the day, whether you come on Thursday or Friday, after that it's just the film which will speak, there is nothing else," he said.
