Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed the Education Department to make six upcoming schools for meritorious students functional from the next academic session.
He asked the department to complete the civil works and recruitment process of the faculty for the upcoming residential schools, at the earliest.
These schools are being established in Mohali, Bathinda, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala to provide free quality education and hostel facilities for all students of the government schools, who score 80 per cent or above marks in the Matriculation examinations.
Badal, at a meeting, asked Principal Secretary Education to direct all the District Education Officers (DEOs) to inform students of government schools about the procedure of admission and facilities being provided in these schools.
Principal Secretary, Education, Anjali Bhawra told Badal that the screening test for teaching and non-teaching staff would be conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU).
She also informed that the medical, non-medical and commerce streams would be commenced in these schools.
English speaking and personality development courses would also be initiated, she said.
