Jammu and Kashmir government has formulated a comprehensive plan to expand and beautify all the gardens and parks in the state including the famous Mughal Gardens.
This was stated by Minister for Floriculture, Gardens and Parks Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari after inspecting Shalimar Gardens on the banks of Dal Lake here.
Bukhari was accompanied by Education Minister Naeem Akhter.
"In view of huge potential of floriculture at national and international levels, the state government will devise a strategy to exploit the ample potential of floriculture in the state," Bukhari said.
He said parks are the major attraction for tourists who throng in large numbers to visit the breathtaking natural beauty and magnificence of Mughal Gardens.
Bukhari said that all the resources are being pooled to give further facelift to the Mughal Gardens to preserve their pristine glory besides bringing in a Mughal aura to other parks in Kashmir.
He directed the field staff as well as officers of the floriculture department to give focus on beautification and preservation of Mughal Gardens so that this source of tourist attraction is maintained to its full potential.
The minister also inspected the Mughal Hamam -- a building dating back to Emperor Shah-e-Jehan's period, which was in an abandoned state since 19th century.
On this occasion, Bukhari said the Mughal Hamam will be thrown open for the visitors on ticketing basis very soon.
Earlier, the minister was apprised that the engineering wing of the department of Floriculture under a conservation plan of INTACH had started restoration work for conservation and preservation of the Mughal Hamam.
