Congress activists have allegedly burnt effigies of actress-turned-politician Hema Malini in different parts of the district as a mark of their protest against her "indecent" remark against party Vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
"Hema Malini, virtually has carried out no development in Mathura during her roughly 18 months tenure. In order to hide her failure now she is making baseless and indecent remarks against the national leader," Sohan Singh Sisodiya, District President of Congress, said last evening.
Sisodiya was leading a large number of activists who burnt the effigy of the local MP.
The effigy of Malini was also burnt in Kosi Kalan, some 45 kms from district headquarters.
Earlier on Sunday, Malini called Rahul Gandhi "Bechara", when she was asked the reason for delay in passing GST bill in the parliament, in spite of reported conditional support of Congress leader.
Malini said, "The Congress leader does not want the GST bill passed because he knows it is a good step for the people and would be another feather in the cap of BJP government.. For having this mentality, I would call him bechara".
Congrees leaders in the state have also threatened to continue their protest.
"We may plan agitation against her in case she does not withdraw her remark against congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi," Congress legislative party leader Pradeep Mathur said.
Abid Hussain, President, City Congress Committee, said that they would continue to burn her effigy, until she repents.
