Congress spokesman Amarnath Agarwal said that on the orders of a local court, the district police had yesterday lodged an FIR against five persons. However, since senior policemen and BSP leaders were involved in the case, only CBI could ensure an impartial and just inquiry for bringing the culprits to book.
The FIR was lodged against the then SHO of Hussainganj police station Baliram Saroj, former Circle Officer B S Gabarial, the then SP East Harish Kumar and former BSP leader Jitendra Singh Babloo and one Intezar Abidi Bobby for allegedly being involved in the arsoning.
The direction was given by the Chief Judicial Magistrate on an application of Congress leader Rajveer Singh.
The incident took place after Joshi had made some comments against the then Chief Minister Mayawati.
