"The first list of candidates for the civic body polls will be out by April 6," Pradesh Congress spokesman Dhirendra Pratap told PTI from Haldwani where he has gone as part of a tour of Kumaon region to drum up support for the party in view of the coming elections.
The upcoming elections are being viewed as a dry run for 2014 general elections.
Claiming that the civic body polls will prove to be the waterloo of all opposition parties including BJP, the PCC spokesman said, "People are vigilant and have seen the way BJP made a mockery of democracy by not letting the state assembly transact business during its Budget session over a non-issue like the alleged SIDCUL land deal."
State Finance Minister Indira Hridayesh, who is also touring the region, exuded confidence that Congress was headed for a clean sweep in the civic body polls due later this month.
