The opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today accused the Congress government in Punjab of making a "mockery" of the Assembly session by using it to "settle personal score" with its political opponents.
"The government ran away from discussing issues of public importance in the Assembly and in a bid to divert the focus of people, they stooped to dirty politics," AAP MLAs Aman Arora, Kultar Singh, Nazar Singh Manshahia, Baljinder Kaur and Rupinder Kaur Ruby said in a statement here.
They were referring to a resolution passed in the Assembly yesterday, criticising the "irresponsible" behaviour of Lok Insaf Party MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains in connection with a purported "audio recording" which they released pertaining to a drug case in which AAP leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira had been summoned by court.
The resolution was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra.
The AAP leaders also questioned the silence of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on the issue and accused it of being hand in glove with the Congress.
The AAP leaders said targeting political opponents is the "lowest level" of politics and asserted that the AAP would not bow down to such "mischievous and dirty tricks" of the government.
