Scores of Congress activists staged demonstrations near the BJP headquarters and Gujarat Bhawan here against the attack on party vice president Rahul Gandhi's car in the western state.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken led a protest march to Gujarat Bhawan and said that the attack on Gandhi was "an attack on democracy".
"The BJP leadership should not force the Congress to cross the line by attacking him (Gandhi)," he said.
Maken asked the Gujarat government to take immediate action against the BJP Yuva Morcha leaders who allegedly attacked Gandhi's vehicle.
Gandhi had yesterday faced protests in flood-hit Dhanera town of Banaskantha district in Gujarat where alleged BJP supporters hurled a cement brick at his car and showed him black flags.
The Congress activists also staged a protest near BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road here.
Police put up barricades on roads leading to the BJP office to stop the protesters from marching ahead.
Some demonstrators were also detained.
"The attack on such a senior leader of the Congress is a failure of the state's security," Youth Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja.
The Congress today accused the BJP and the RSS of being behind what it described as a "murderous attack" on Gandhi in Gujarat and claimed it was a "pre-planned" conspiracy.
