Accusing Governor Ram Naresh Yadav of failing to uphold the sanctity of his post, the opposition Congress today demanded his resignation over the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam.
Joining a debate on motion of thanks to Governor's address during the ongoing budget session of the state Assembly, Congress' Mahendra Singh Kalukheda, referring to the name of Yadav's son figuring in the MPPEB scam, said that the Governor has failed to maintain the dignity of his post.
He said after the involvement of Yadav's Officer-on- Special Duty coming to light, the name of the Governor's son has also cropped up in connection with the scam.
Therefore, Yadav should resign from the gubernatorial post, he said.
The state government says that the STF (which is probing scam) was working on the directives of the court (MP High Court). If such was the case, then how come Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Home Minister Babulal Gaur were summoning the STF officers and issuing them orders, Kalukheda said.
The Chief Minister should note that former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala and former Union minister Rashid Masood went to jail in similar cases, he said.
Kalukheda said that Union Minister Uma Bharati had demanded a CBI probe into the MPPEB scam but the state government was not in its favour.
He said that the BJP had been earlier calling CBI a "caged parrot" but now the cage was with them.
Now they shouldn't have a hitch in handing over the probe to CBI, he said.
