Members of opposition Congress today staged a walkout from the state Assembly seeking withdrawal of Property Tax imposed by the Parkash Singh Badal government recently.
Soon after the question hour, Congress MLA Balbeer Singh Sidhu was on his feet seeking roll back of the Property Tax imposed by Punjab government in the state.
Sidhu was joined by other party MLAs whom he led to the well of the House where CLP leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar also joined them raising slogans against the government.
After that the entire Congress flock led by party MLA Jagmohan Singh Kang trooped out of the House except former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, who had her call attention notice listed on the business in the House.
Leader of the House and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal took a jibe at Congress' walkout saying that "their walkout is just to make news".
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal countered Congress MLAs, whose walkout was for about ten minutes, saying that the Property Tax has been imposed as the UPA had compelled the states to do so.
He asked Congress MLAs to prevail upon the UPA to withdraw property tax. "I ask Congress MLAs here to urge the UPA not to compel states to impose property tax," he said.
On the issue of walkout, Jakhar said, "It's the Constitutional right of the Opposition.
