Seeking to strike an emotive chord with people after the near wipe out of its leadership in the Bastar Maoist attack, Congress will take out a 'kalash yatra' in Chhattisgarh from July 4.
The yatra, which will be taken out in separate groups as the party does not want to put at risk all its leaders who face Maoist threat, will begin from Nandel, the village of its slain PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel on July 4.
On July 7, another group will begin the procession from Rajim, the native place of its senior leader late V C Shukla and on July 9, it will commence from Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon in Dantewada.
In a major attack on Congress' 'parivartan yatra' in Bastar on May 25, Maoists had killed 27 people including Patel, his son Dinesh, party leader Mahendra Karma and ex-MLA Uday Mudaliyar and injured Shukla, who later succumbed to his injuries.
The Chhattisgarh government and Opposition Congress have declared to provide the status of "martyrs" to those killed in the attack.
AICC general secretary B K Hariprasad said the 'kalash yatra' does not substitute the 'parivartan yatra', which will be recommenced soon.
