"It has been decided to field candidates in all the 854 Zilla Parishad zones and wherever necessary the party will enter into understanding with like-minded parties at local level," Odisha Congress president Prasad Harichandan said.
Harichandan was addressing a press meet after a party meeting attended by its Odisha in-charge B K Hariprasahad and senior leaders.
Stating that the party would undertake door-to-door visits and touch every household to seek people's cooperation in the run up to panchayat elections, the PCC chief said 30 senior leaders have been entrusted with the task of operating as observer for all 30 districts of the state.
Steps are also being taken to form task force in all 6800 gram panchayats which will be completed next month, Harichandan said.
He said the party is determined to fight for the unemployed youths, women, poor and farmers.
Though Congress is not in power in the state or at the Centre, it can promise to fight for the cause of common people and work for protecting the interest of the Dalits, he said.
