Questioning the secular credentials of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a family function here recently, Congress today said that a political person's claims of personal and professional lives being separate are unpalatable.
"Where was the secularism of Mulayam Singh who rose to the dais in Saifai holding the hand of Narendra Modi. If a person leading a political life says that relationships are personal, it is not digestable," UPCC president Nirmal Khatri said here.
"We do not like even standing together with whom we do not share the views... There must have been some sympathy in the hearts," he said.
Khatri was referring to the 'tilak' ceremony of Yadav's grandnephew and Mainpuri MP, Tej Pratap Yadav in Saifai on February 21 which was attended by Modi.
Attacking the Samajwadi Party, he said that it was working against Lohia's (socialist ideologues) ideology and instead of breaking caste barriers it was instigating one caste against the other and in the name of encouraging folk art, it was bringing Bollywood stars.
"The Samajwadi ideology is confined to the family itself... They have not even cared for their caste," Khatri said.
Alleging that loot, corruption and harassment of people is at its peak in the state, Khatri said that his party would become their voice and take to the streets against this demonic rule and its beginning is being made in the SP stronghold here today.
Congress workers took out a padyatra in the town which later converged into a meeting at the Kutchery Compound.
