Senior Maharashtra minister Narayan Rane today said Congress would not tolerate insult to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan at the functions where the Prime Minister is present.
Chavan yesterday skipped a function at Nagpur where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present, after being heckled by BJP supporters at another function at Solapur last week.
"We will not tolerate our CM being insulted in future. Just as the PM's post has a certain sanctity and we respect it, so does the CM's post and everybody should respect it," said Rane.
"Be it Haryana, Jharkhand or Maharashtra, the Chief Ministers are not getting the respect at PM's events. He (Modi) is the country's PM, not BJP's PM," Rane said.
The senior Congress leader, who is heading the party's campaign committee for upcoming assembly polls, said the campaign would start on September 1 from Hutatma Chowk in Mumbai.
"Our opponents have nothing to show but empty boasts," he said. "People are disillusioned with the Modi government. They (BJP) said we will end inflation but in reality, inflation has shot up, be it the prices of petrol or diesel or other essential commodities," he said.
Modi should be told that the projects he inaugurated in recent times were initiated by the Congress-led UPA government, Rane said.
