Conman detained under Goondas Act

Alleged conman Sukash Chandrasekar, arrested in connection with a Rs 19 crore case in Chennai among others, has been detained under the stringent Goondas Act, police said today.
He was detained under Goondas Act on the directions of City Police Commissioner S George, they added.
Friend of budding actress Leena Maria Paul and an accused in a Rs 19 crore cheating case, Chandrasekar was arrested by a Delhi police team in Kolkata and brought here on July 10 in connection with cases pending against him here.
A college drop-out hailing from Bangalore, he had 16 pending cases -- eight in Tamil Nadu, six in Karnataka and one each in Kerala and Delhi.

He and Paul are accused in the Rs 19 crore cheating case besides another case of duping of a businessman of Rs 62.47 lakh. The actress has already been arrested.
The tech-savvy Chandrasekar used mobile and internet technology to lure the gullible victims such as sending emails and tricking callers through carefully selected numbers to make them seem as he was calling from elsewhere.

He had posed as a Karnataka IAS officer and convinced a couple from Chennai into depositing Rs 19.70 crore they had obtained as loan from a bank at Ambattur here with the promise of awarding a government contract for machinery, only to do away with the money later.

He and Paul used a similar modus operandi to con a city businessman to part with Rs 62.47 lakh who had also filed a complaint which led to the actress' arrest.
Paul was arrested from a farmhouse in Delhi by a special team on May 28. Three others including Sukash Chandrasekar, were then absconding. Police recovered 80 watches and nine cars.
