The Uttar Pradesh government is considering insurance cover for devotees attending the Kumbh Mela scheduled to begin from January 15 at Prayagraj (Allahabad), the northern state's Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said here Saturday.
He was here to promote the Kumbh Mela and informed that he had extended an invite to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath to attend the 49-day event, widely recognised as the largest congregation of pilgrims in the world.
In reply to a question, Maurya said invitations had also been sent to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi among others.
Queried on insurance cover for the several million devotees expected to attend the mela, Maurya said, "We are considering in the direction to insure (the lives of devotees visiting Kumbh Mela)."
