The constable Tamil Selvan had gone to Kovilpalayam in the outskirts with his brother Mohan Prabhakaran, as part of Deepavali on Wednesday, police said.
The duo sought mney from the contractor Natarajan to buy liquor.
As Natarajan refused, both reportedly assaulted him and threatened of dire consequences if informed about the incident, they said.
Based on the complaint from Natarajan, Kovilpalayam police registered a case and arrested the constable and his brother, who were remanded and lodged in the central jail last evening, police said.
