Constable arrested for raping step-daughter

A police constable was arrested here today for allegedly raping his step-daughter since nine years resulting in her bearing a child from him, the police said.
P G Momin, who had first committed the crime in 2004 was arrested from his residence, hours after an FIR was lodged by a women NGO at Laitumkhrah police station in the city.
"We have registered a case against the constable before arresting him," Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills district M Kharkrang said.
The 21-year-old victim, who is raising a nine-year-old child, said she did not dare to inform the incident as the constable would threaten her not to leak the information.

"An under-graduate student of a college in the city, she,however,mustered courage to inform her ordeals to the members of the NGO after seeing other victims coming forward to lodge complaints with the police," Agnes Kharshiing, president of the Civil Society Women's Organisation (CSWO) said.
