The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a police constable for allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 from a person accused of dacoity, police said.
According to the ACB, the constable, identified as Chandrakant Uddhav Ghadge (45) attached to Mankhurd police station, had sought money from the 47-year-old man, accused of dacoity, promising him to remove his name from the case and also told him that he would not be arrested in that case.
Ghadge had demanded Rs 90,000, following which the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against the constable.
Around a fortnight back, the ACB checked the veracity of the complaint against Ghadge.
"After getting convinced that Ghadge had sought bribe, a trap was laid and the constable was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs 50,000," ACB said.
