Contractor attempts suicide seeking dues from Corpn

Upset over not getting pending dues from authorities,a contractor today attempted to commit suicide by setting himself ablaze in front of the Corporation office at nearby Tirupur.
Velumani of Anupparpalayam alleged that officials were not giving payment of Rs ten lakh for the works he carried out over two years, police said.
Police said the contractor approached the officials this morning and as they reportedly rpt reportedly refused to pay the arrears, he came out on to the streets, took out a kerosene can and doused himself with the fuel.
As he was about to light a matchstick, public and a police official overpowered him and foiled his suicide bid, police said.
