A murder convict, who had jumped parole and been on the run since June 2013, has been arrested from suburban Sakinaka, police said today.
Acting on a tip off, the Crime Branch sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the convict Pratap Godse (35) from Sakinaka last night.
"Godse was subsequently handed over to Bhayander police, which placed him under arrest as a case for violating parole rules was registered there," said a police officer.
The officials said that Godse was one of the eleven convicts, who was sentenced to life term in the 2007 murder case and was lodged in the Nashik central prison since then.
At the behest of don Arun Gawli, corporator Kamalakar Jamsandekar was shot dead inside his residence in Sakinaka area in March 2007, following which 21 persons were arrested in the case.
Among the accused, 11 persons, including Godse, were sentenced to life by a MCOCA court in August 2012.
Godse was given a parole in April 2013 and was mandated to surrender before the prison authorities on June 10, 2013. After he jumped parole, a case was registered with the Bhayander police station in that regard and police launched a hunt for him.
The crime branch has handed over Godse to the Bhyandar police and he will be sent to Nashik prison for completing his sentence in the case, added officials.
