Police said the accused C P Suresh, attached to the Alappuzha CB-CID, was arrested last night at the Vytilla Mobility Hub.
The woman, in her twenties, who was trying to board the bus to Kayamkulam last night after work, raised an alarm when the accused, in an inebriated state and not in his uniform, tried to misbehave with her, police said.
When she slapped him, she was pulled down and hit by Suresh, police said.
A crowd gathered and beat him and handed him over to police.
A day earlier, a migrant worker was arrested when he tried to misbehave with a woman passenger in a bus in the city.
