Copper prices advanced by 1.12 per cent to Rs 391.60 per kg in futures trading today as speculators engaged in enlarging their positions, tracking a firm trend overseas.
At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in August rose by Rs 4.35, or 1.12 per cent, to Rs 391.60 per kg in a business turnover of 19,785 lots.
On similar lines, the metal for delivery in November was trading higher by R 4.40, or 1.12 per cent, to Rs 397.70 per kg in 548 lots.
Market analysts said widening of positions by participants on the back of a firm trend in base metals in global markets, mainly kept copper prices up at futures trade.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months advanced 1.3 per cent to USD 6,036 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
