Copper futures traded 0.18 per cent higher at Rs 309.55 today after participants widened their positions despite a weak trend in base metals overseas.
At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery this month rose 55 paise, or 0.18 per cent, at Rs 309.55 per kg, in a business turnover of 321 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month August was up by 40 paise, or 0.13 per cent, at Rs 313.95 per kg in 5 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to firm demand at the domestic spot markets but metal's weakness at the London Metal Exchange as the dollar strengthened before the monthly report on US employment restricted the gains.
