Copra prices soared at the spices market here today on the back of consistent demand from stockists and exporters amid limited stocks availability.
Black pepper also firmed up due to good retail offtake.
While, ginger bleached and unbleached both maintained a stable trend in the absence of any worthwhile buying support.
Besides robust demand from corporates and consumers, copra farmers are holding their stocks amid anticipation of higher realisation, a bigger contributing factor for the steep rise in prices, a trader said.
Copra Rajapur Mumbai jumped by a staggering Rs 1,000 per quntal to Rs 19,000 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 18,000.
Copra office Alapuzha, copra office Kozhikode and copra edible Mumbai all shot up by Rs 400 per quintal each to Rs 11,200, Rs 11,100 and Rs 13,000, respectively as compared to Rs 10,800, Rs 10,700 and Rs 12,600 last weekend.
Black pepper rose by Rs 5 per kilo to Rs 770/820 as against Rs 770/815 previously.
Following are today's closing rates in Rs with previous rates in brackets:
Black pepper (per kg) 770/820 (770/815), ginger bleached (per kg) 350 (350), ginger unbleached (per kg) 370 (370, copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 11,200 (10,800), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 11,100 (10,700), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 19,000 (18,000), Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 13,000 (12,600).
