Cops refuse to register case against charitable society head

Delhi Police today told a court here that it cannot register a case on a plea seeking criminal proceedings against the head of a charitable society as no cognisable offence is made out on the complaint.
"... It is prayed that no cognizable offence is made out on the complaint of the petitioner. The petition may please be dismissed," police told metropolitan magistrate Purva Sarin, who has fixed the matter for January 28.
The court on December 18 last year had directed Delhi Police officials to file action taken report (ATR) on the plea filed by Haryana resident Satvir Singh, alleging that society head Gurinder Singh Dhillon is "spreading superstition among masses", and thus get benefits by "illegally collecting donations".

He also said that the society does not give any receipt of the donations and also exploits its workers in the name of god and rituals.
Police, however, in its ATR said, "In this regard, statements of individuals were recorded, who stated that they do this 'kar-sewa' out of their own sweet will and nobody forces them to do so. During further enquiry it also came into notice that sevadars are doing kar-sewa in their free time."
The petitioner said that he was follower of Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB) society, and had donated Rs 1,000 while attending Satsang in October 2012 and November 2013 in the organisation.

"He was not given any proof of participation and donation to the Satsang. He was told that the society did not give any proof of purchase and donation in this regard," Singh in his complaint said.
