Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh Tuesday asked Congress legislators and workers to "aggressively and effectively" counter the "disinformation" campaign of the SAD and the AAP, who, he alleged, were stooping to "chicanery" to woo voters.
He also alleged that the opposition parties were indulging in "false propaganda" to "mislead" voters, a party release here said.
Singh Tuesday held a series of meetings with party MLAs and workers, and welcomed new members into the Congress fold ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
He welcomed Parminder Mehta from Ludhiana back into the Punjab Congress.
Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, who had contested as an independent in the 2017 Assembly polls from Sanour seat in Patiala also joined the party.
Pathanmajra's entry will give the Congress a boost in Patiala, Singh said.
The 'Balmiki Samaj', led by MLA Raj Kumar Verka, also met the chief minister to extend its unconditional support to the Congress.
The 'Balmiki Samaj' has full faith in Singh's leadership and wants to strengthen his hands against the "divisive and anti-people forces" in the state, Verka said.
Singh said his government was committed to the welfare of all sections of society, particularly the underprivileged, and had already initiated a series of measures for their betterment.
The Congress, under Rahul Gandhi, is all geared up to work for the upliftment of the disadvantaged segments, he added.
Interacting with MLAs from Faridkot parliamentary constituency and workers from various districts, Singh exhorted them to go all out to ensure victory of the Congress candidate with an impressive margin.
The chief minister asked the MLAs and workers to take the development agenda of the Congress government in Punjab down to the last voter.
Singh also asked them to create awareness among the people on the need to bring the Congress to power at the Centre with a thumping majority to bring the nation's growth back on track.
