A man and a woman were seriously injured when two elephants attacked them near Thadagam on the city outskirts today, police said.
The couple, working at a kiln, slept in a nearby thatched shed during the night. When the two woke up in the early hours, they found a herd of elephants standing near the shed, police said.
An elephant hit the man with its trunk while another lashed at his wife with its trunk. Both fell down due to the impact but then the herd turned around and made its way into the nearby forests, police said.
The couple was rushed by a few workers to Government Hospital here where the two are being treated, police added.
