A local court today asked the police to submit a report on the action it has taken on the complaint against Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for jumping atop a police vehicle during his visit to Kerala.
Considering a petition filed by a local NCP leader, the Judicial Magistrate at Mavelikkara directed the Sub-Inspector at Nooranad police station in Alappuzhza district to submit a report before January 29.
Police had earlier decided against registering a case against Gandhi on the complaint lodged by Mujib Rahman, a local NCP leader, who alleged that Gandhi's action amounted to violation of Section 123 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Police held that Gandhi had jumped on to the vehicle with the knowledge of the security personnel as there was a surge of party workers when he arrived at Nooranad in Alappuzha district to participate in a padyatra organised by the Youth Congress on Monday.
Rahman today moved the court seeking a direction to police to take action on the complaint.
He also alleged that Gandhi also misused police vehicle and caused inconvenience to the public by causing traffic congestion.
Leaders of the CPI(M) and BJP also sought action against Gandhi over the issue.
