District and Sessions Judge G S Bakshi yesterday awarded life term to convict Swaranjit Singh, hailing from Himmatpura village of the district for killing his friend Jagjit Singh after a fight over consumption of liquor.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict.
On March 31, 2012, the duo had consumed alcohol when Swaranjit asked his friend to bring another bottle of liquor. When Jagjit refused to oblige, the accused hit him on the head following which he died on the spot, police said.
