A Delhi court has directed two persons, convicted in an assault case, to do community service at the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib here for 15 days, noting that the incident was not pre-mediated.
Special Judge Hemani Malhotra asked Jasbir Singh and his son Gursimran Singh to pay Rs 21,000 each to their neighbour Surjeet Singh while acquitting Jasbir's another son, Davender for lack of evidence.
"Complainant and convicts are neighbours and the incident was not pre-mediated. Ends of justice would be met with if both convicts are sentenced to pay a fine of Rs 21,000... Both convicts are further sentenced to serve at Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib for 15 days.
"Both the convicts are directed to report to Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee of Sis Ganj with a copy of the order. Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee shall assign both the convicts Kar Sewa in Gurudwara and shall issue certificate in this regard. Both convicts shall submit the certificate in the court," it said.
The court was hearing an appeal of Surjeet against a trial court order acquitting the trio.
According to the complaint filed by Surjeet, on July 7, 2013, Jasbir came to his shop and had a verbal altercation with him. It was alleged that Jasbir called his sons Gursimran and Davender to the shop in Paharganj in central Delhi and assaulted him.
However, Jasbir and his sons claimed that it was Surjeet who had slapped Jasbir and pushed Gursimran and sustained injuries while trying to flee from the spot.
However, the court noted that it was Surjeet who called the police and rubbished the claim saying it was hard to believe that Surjeet could overpower strongly built Jasbir and Gursimran.
