A local court has ordered to provide a defence lawyer to the accused in a Muzaffarnagar riots-related murder case.
Additional District Sessions Judge Jitender Kumar yesterday ordered and nominated a lawyer from a legal aid committee as the defence for the five accused in the Kawal village killing case in the district, in which two youths were murdered.
The court had fixed March 20 as the date for framing charges in the case.
They claimed that they have not engaged any lawyer so far and thus sought more time.
The police had registered a case in the matter at Jansath police station on August 27 last year.
The prosecution stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) team set up in the case, has already filed the charge sheet against the accused -- Mujassim, Muzammil, Nadeem, Furkan and Jahangir.
The violent communal riots in the district led to the displacement of 4,000 people and death of over 60 people.
