Court rejects Sarkar's bail plea, remands him to 14-days JC

A local court here today rejected the bail plea of Gopal Sarkar who was arrested in connection with the Ranaghat nun rape case in Nadia district.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Papia Das rejected the bail plea of Sarkar and remanded him to judicial custody till April 23.
Sarkar was arrested from Habra in North 24-Parganas district on March 26 for being allegedly involved in the heinous crime and giving shelter to the other culprits involved in it.
After his arrest, Sarkar was produced in the ACJM court on March 27 which had remanded him to 14 days CID custody.
The rape of the 71-year-old nun at the Convent of Jesus and Mary at Ranaghat on March 14 had triggered a nation-wide outrage.
