BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto was today remanded to judicial custody by a court after his surrender in connection with a 10-year-old case.
First Class Judicial Magistrate Md Umar remanded Mahto to judicial custody.
On January 20, the court had slapped relevant sections of IPC against him for allegedly forcibly freeing an illegal liquor vendor from police custody.
The court had on March 2 issued warrant against the MLA.
On December 26, 2006 excise police arrested an illegal liquor trader Sahdeo Mahto in Baghmara block of district. As per FIR, Dhulu Mahto got him forcibly freed when police were taking him to Dhanbad.
Dhulu was, however, not an MLA then.
On January 20, 2016, the court of Md Umar sentenced him to jail for one year.
Dhulu Mahto appealed against it in the court of district and session judge which, however, quashed his appeal on February 17, 2016.
On March 2, the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate had issued a warrant.
Dhulu Mahto had for the first time become MLA on Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (P) ticket in 2009 and again in 2014 assembly election he won on BJP ticket from Baghmara constituency.
