Court sentences man to death in kidnap-murder case

A court in Bihar's Katihar district today convicted and sentenced a man to death in a case of kidnapping and murder of a two-year old boy in 2012.
The Additional District and Sessions judge R P Singh sentenced Bigan Mahto to death for abducting teacher Hira Lal Mahto's son Suman from his residence in Rajjiganj locality under Kodha police station area on January 19, 2012 for extortion and later strangulated the child to death.
The body was dumped in Boro river and later fished out by the police on grilling the convict who directed the rescuers to the site.
Mahto was convicted and undergoing life imprisonment in the kidnapping and murder of another eleven year-old boy earlier.

The judge took into consideration this very fact that he had committed similar crimes in past and observed he was a threat to the society.
