Local lawyers today held protests and burnt an effigy of the police as they demanded greater security at the local court complex here after a man was gunned down yesterday on the premises.
"Anti-social elements are always making rounds of these courts but police seem to have turned a blind eye to them.
"Yesterday, it was a lawyer's client who was shot dead. But the incident shows that anybody who visits the local courts here is vulnerable... We demand adequate security for the complex," said Shivdutt Vashisth, one of the protesting lawyers.
Meanwhile, taking a serious note of the attack yesterday in which one Shashi Nagar was killed by four assailants when he had come to the court to meet his lawyer, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr Balraj Singh, today took steps to enhance security at the complex.
A prohibition under Section 144 of IPC has been imposed on carrying licensed weapons into the court complex while police personnel on security there were seen carrying out meticulous checks on those visiting the place.
"There is also a proposal to soon install CCTV cameras at the complex," Singh said.
