While Cheriyan replaces C V Chandrababu in the politically sensitive Aalppuzha, Saseendran is getting the third term in the post.
Both of them entered politics through the party's campus wing SFI and held positions in youth outfit DYFI before rising as district functionaries.
Though there had been reports of factional tussles in Alappuzha, home district of party stalwart and former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, the CPI(M) leadership denied media reports in this regard.
These were the first two districts to hold conferences as the triennial organisational exercise began a few months back down from the grassroot level committees across the state.
