Puducherry unit of the CPI(M) today asked the territorial administration to withdraw the hike in power tariff effected from last month.
V Perumal, Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the CPI(M) said in a release that already Puducherry was witnessing fast closure of industrial units and no new units were coming up. In the circumstances the increase in power tariff would worsen the situation still further.
The government should take steps to ensure that the transmission loss and power theft were prevented as they had been resulting in heavy loss.
CPI also flayed the government for raising the power tariff and demanded its withdrawal.
