The 23rd CPI party Congress, beginning here tomorrow, will finalise the Left party's political strategy to take on the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha election next year.
Coming days after the CPI(M) decided to have an "understanding" with the Congress in a bid to fight the communal forces in the country, the CPI meet would discuss a draft political resolution that called for a broad platform of "secular, democratic and Left forces to fight the Sangh parivar affiliates", a source in the party said.
Though the draft did not mention any particular political party, the CPI was not averse to including the Congress in the fight against the BJP, another source said.
The decision of the party Congress, to be inaugurated by CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy, would give a new direction to Left-wing politics in the country, they added.
The CPI(M) party Congress, which concluded in Hyderabad on April 22, resolved that it would not have a political alliance with the Congress, but an "understanding" inside and outside Parliament to stop the forces of communalism.
Hinting at the political line of the CPI, Reddy today said the relevant political forces, as per state-specific conditions, should try to adjust themselves in order to defeat the BJP.
The draft resolution of the CPI said the political parties would be free to draw their own electoral tactics as and when polls were announced, but the launch of a mass resistance against fascism could not be delayed anymore.
Dislodging the "RSS-controlled BJP government will be the main slogan", it added.
The resolution attacked the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stated that with the "RSS in real control, the threat is much more serious. It (RSS) has already penetrated almost all the key sectors and organs of the government".
Under the Modi government, the country was heading towards an "authoritarian, dictatorial turn that may pave the way for a fascist takeover", it claimed.
"In the present political situation of the country, the role of the Left in resisting the fascistic offensive acquires a central place," the resolution said.
The delegate session of the CPI party Congress will begin after the inaugural session that will debate on the political resolution, political review and also the draft organisational reports.
The election of the new national council and the new general secretary will be held on April 29, when the meet is scheduled to conclude with a massive volunteer march.
