The lanky cricketer, who made his ODI and T20 debut for India in December last, was recently picked up by Royal Challengers, Bangalore, for Rs 3.2 crore during the IPL auctions.
In an emotional acceptance speech at the award function on Thursday, he thanked all those who had supported him at various stages of his career.
"People around me have been great and always wanted me to do well. I have a lot of people to thank as they have supported me in each phase of my life," he said.
He also thanked former India spinner M Venkatramana for his inputs and constant support, saying they had helped him become a better cricketer.
Venkatramana on his part, said Washington Sundar's real test will be to stay grounded in the coming years.
"Washington's biggest strength lies in his self-belief. He is never overawed by the batsman's credentials and backs his abilities.
