A 27-year-old man, allegedly involved in at least 17 criminal cases, was arrested today following an exchange of fire in Ganjam district, police said.
The incident happened near Jhada Ankuli under the jurisdiction of Berhampur Sadara police station.
The accused was wanted for being involved in various incidents of dacoity, attempt to murder and extortion, a police officer said.
He was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here after he received bullet injuries in his legs during the encounter, the officer said.
Two police personnel also received injuries when the accused hurled bombs at them in an effort to escape, the Sub-divisional Police Officer of Berhampur Sadara, Ashok Kumar Mohanty, said.
A firearm, one round of ammunition, two bombs and a motorbike was seized from him, he said.
