The Calcutta University authorities Saturday asked affiliated colleges to ensure that students were not allowed to appear for examinations if their attendance is below 60 per cent, a university official said.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Dipak Kar informed principals of several colleges at a meeting that 60 per cent attendance is a must for appearing in examinations for under-graduate and post-graduate courses.

Kar also said at the meeting that there would be more Multiple Choice-type Questions (MCQ) across all streams from the next academic session.

From the next academic session, Bengali, English and Environment answer sheets will be in Optical Mark Reader (OMR) format, the official said.

It was also decided at the meeting that students will not be given honours if they failed to get below 40 per cent marks in a stream and will not be eligible for pass if they secured below 30 per cent marks in both theory and practical, the official said.
