Curfew relaxed in Rajouri

Curfew was relaxed in Rajouri town today, barring the Old city area, as situation was limping back to normalcy after clashes over torching of terror outfit IS's flag by some VHP activists.
Curfew was imposed in Rajouri town yesterday after some VHP activists reportedly burnt terror outfit IS's flag, leading to protests by minority groups who said that the flag bore religious scripture.
Clashes were reported in parts of Old city area as some youths, while defying curfew, pelted stones at policemen.
"Situation has returned to normal and barring one place, curfew has been lifted from most parts of the town. Right now the curfew remains in the old Rajouri town under only the limits of one municipality," DIG Rajouri Poonch Range A K Atri told PTI.

He said that the situation became normal after leaders of the two community held talks and agreed to resolve the issue amicably.
"The leaders of the two communities held a meeting last evening and decided to resolve the issue amicability," Atri said.

The officer said that the police has taken into custody 20 people who were trying to disrupt the law and order in the town, by resorting to stone pelting.
"Around 20 miscreants who were involved in the incident of stone pelting have been booked by the police in the town," the IG said.
Atri said that the police and the civil administration was keeping an eye on the situation and they are hopeful that the curfew would also be lifted from the remaining area as soon as the situation is complete normal.

He said that the army was not deployed, but it was only the local police that was enforcing the curfew in the area.
