Dal Khalsa's secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh also praised Suu Kyi for her statement in New Delhi that "her people felt abandoned by India during their hard days", saying that it highlighted India's double standards.

Delivering 'Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture' in New Delhi on November 14, Suu Kyi was referring to the period when India established diplomatic relations with the military junta in the 1990s.

Praising Suu Kyi for the political maturity that she has displayed during her visit to India, Dal Khalsa said they have urged SGPC to invite her to visit the Golden Temple on her next trip to India.

"After Nelson Mandela, it is Suu Kyi who is an inspiration for all who believe in freedom of speech, democracy, liberty and respect for human rights," Kanwar Pal Singh said.

Hailing Suu Kyi as "a global symbol of moral courage", he said that the Burmese leader had always been an inspiration for all those who believed in non-violent struggle.

Expressing deep concern over the killings of Muslim Rohingyas in Burma, the Dal Khalsa leader urged Suu Kyi not to remain silent, rather exert her influence on Myanmar's public to deliver justice to the aggrieved community.

Suu Kyi is here after a gap of nearly four decades as part of New Delhi's ongoing engagement with the democratic and multi-party polity in Myanmar.
