A notice on his official website said, "The Dalai Lama is departing Dharamsala today for the United States where he is scheduled to undergo prostate treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a period of rest from the end of January 2016 for approximately one month."
However, no official from the Tibetan government in exile was available for comment.
The 80-year-old Dalai Lama's regular engagement schedule will resume in March, the notice added.
Previously, in September also the Tibetan leader had been to the US for a medical checkup.
