Subhash Rajvanshi, a resident of Madiyaon area was arrested by Mati police for lifting a motorcycle and put in the lockup of Dewa Kotwali last evening, police said.
An inmate Shyamu Rawat said that Rajvanshi went to toilet around late in the evening and later his body was found hanging from an iron angle.
The deceased's family, however, alleged that the youth died due to custodial torture.
Superintendent of Police Abdul Hameed said that the youth was arrested on the identification by the motorcycle owner and he committed suicide.
