Daughter humiliated by kangaroo court, mother commits suicide

A case of abatement to suicide was registered against three persons after a tribal woman allegedly committed suicide following assault on her daughter by a kangaroo court at a village in West Midnapore district, police said today.
The woman, Padma Khotal, took the extreme step last night as she was depressed after her daughter was assaulted and her hair cut off by the three as punishment by the kangaroo court on March 21 at Pachna village in Daton police station area, police sources said.
The punishment was meted out to the daughter for allegedly having illicit relations with a man, whose wife complained to it, the sources said.

The woman's family lodged an FIR against the three the same day, but withdrew it on March 22 saying that an amicable settlement had been reached.
The woman thereafter claimed that her daughter was framed by the three only because they were tribals and became depressed, they said, adding the woman's family lodged an FIR during the day for abatement to suicide against the three.
