Deep depression weakens, Odisha to receive rainfall: IMD

Odisha is likely to experience rain in the next 24 hours as the deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal has weakened and moved west-northwestwards and at a place about 350 km north of Paradip today, IMD said.
The IMD in its latest bulletin said that the observations received from Kolkata Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that the deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal has moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 12 kmph during the past sic hours.
"The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a depression during the next six hours and into a well marked low pressure area during subsequent 24 hours," S C Sahu, the director of the meteorological centre here said.

However, the IMD forecast said that rain and thunder shower likely to occur at many places in districts of Odisha during next 24 hours.
While IMD suggested to lower storm warning signals in all ports across Odisha coast, it said that heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places in districts of north Odisha during the next 24 hours.
Under the impact of the system there would be strong gusty surface wind from southwesterly direction with speed reaching 35-45 KMPH gusting to 55 KMPH along and off Odisha coast.
"Sea condition would be moderate to rough along and off Odisha coast," it said adding that fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea along and off Odisha coast.
