Delhi air quality improves

Delhiites breathed easy today as the air quality turned better and remained outside the 'severe plus' category for the fourth day.
The System of Air Quality And Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) has forecast that air quality may dip over the weekend due to incursion of moisture and fall in the inversion layer which will keep pollutants trapped near the surface.
The air quality index (AQI), at 310, was in the 'very poor' zone. However, the figure was lower than yesterday's 363.
The volume (24-hour rolling average) of ultrafine particulates PM2.5 and PM10 were 140 and 216 micrograms per cubic metre, respectively.

According to an hourly graph of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the levels of pollution fell through the day but there could be a renewed spike during the weekend.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today lifted its ban on construction activities in Delhi-NCR and allowed trucks to enter the national capital, while asking authorities to strictly monitor their movement.
The green panel, however, refused to lift its ban on industrial activities causing pollution in the Delhi and National Capital Region region.
The measures, part of the Graded Response Action Plan, were enforced on November 8 after pollution levels spiked, hitting the emergency category accompanied by thick smog.
