Immediately after electricity supply stopped at 1:04 PM, all essential services were shifted to diesel-run back-up power generation system, an airport spokesperson said.

"There was a failure in power supply from discom at 1304 hours. Flight operations at IGIA are absolutely normal and there are no cancellations or delays. The entire power load of the airport was restored within 15-60 seconds," he said.

This was made possible by an extensive arrangement of power back-up and multiple redundancies put in place by DIAL, he said.

"Diesel power sets are being used to run all facilities at the airport and discom's power will be used once it is restored and frequencies checked for aberrations," the spokesperson said.

Yesterday also, the operations at the airport were not affected despite collapse of the Northern Grid.

The total installed back-up capacity at IGIA is 59.5 MW. This capacity is well in excess of actual loads, the spokesperson said.
